Cookie Law – Dave-Holland.co.uk

At the end of May 2012 the EU Cookie Directive (EU Cookie Law) came into effect. The law exists in order to improve security online, and to increase data privacy on the web.

The law is targeted at providing users with a much higher degree of control over the information that websites store about them, and also how websites can then use that data.

The EU Cookie Directive is based on a system of “implied consent”, rather than an “opt in” system, meaning that website that you may visit are not required to show visitors a technical privacy policy, but instead only have to make all users aware that they use cookies on the website.

In order for websites to run their normal functionality, cookies are necessary, for things such as shopping basket contents, language settings etc.

If a site is based outside the EU, but is targeting users within the EU it will be necessary to comply with the EU cookie law.

What are Cookies?

Cookies are small files of text that websites send to your computer so that they can deliver their website content effectively. Generally speaking, cookies make websites more user friendly by remembering some of your details so that you don’t have to re-type everything each visit.

Cookies also remember your username and passwords for many sites, so you don’t have to add it on each visit from that machine.

You can specify variables such as language, text font size, etc so useability is improved.

Cookies are designed to make your use of this site easier and faster. If you would like more information about how we use cookies on this site, please see below:
